Yen - main page

Introduction

Yen Kanji
Yen Kanji character

Yen

Yen is a fantasy world, suitable for role playing games (RPGs) but also for general wonder, inspiration and fun. The name means 'round' in Go, the most common language in the world. Yen resembles the typical RPG fantasy world, filled with magic and monsters, though these are not dominant. Most physics are quite (Earth-)normal, but others are very different. See the page on species for details. In addition to a large flora and fauna, Yen is home to several sapient races that are unique to the world.

D&D

Yen is suitable as a background world for role playing games (RPGs). Some parts of the texts are specifically aimed at D&D, specifically the 5th edition of that game. These are marked in brown, like this section.
This does not mean that players and game masters are stuck with D&D; everything can be translated to other RPG systems.

None of the standard D&D humanoid races are present on Yen. Players are restricted to simi, tarhar, telgu or wekalai. See the page on species for details.

Large parts of Yen are dominated by the simi, who hail from Yamato, an island with a culture that echoes that of medieval Japan on Earth. Therefore, players may want to consider playing one of the oriental character classes, like monk, samurai, ninja, sohei, shungenja or wujen (see SRD classes) or older variants like bushi, kensai or yakuza. However, the world is equally well suited to the core character classes.
